Gilbert "Gil" "Clade" Guerrero died after a long brave battle of liver cancer at home on June 20, 2016 in Austin, Texas at the age of 72.

Gil is survived by his 98-year-old mother, Guadalupe Guerrero, Austin; wife, Anita Guerrero; daughter, Renée Guerrero (Larry Harris), Yonkers, NY; son, Lonnie Guerrero (Melissa), Austin; sister, Gloria Sanchez, Las Vegas, NV; brother, Lonnie Guerrero, Jr., Austin; and his three beloved grandchildren Sydney, Quintin and Isaiah.

He was preceded in death by his father, Longinos Guerrero, Sr. and his brother, Louie Guerrero.

Gilbert was born on July 27, 1943 in Houston, Texas to Guadalupe and Longinos Guerrero. He attended Zavala Elementary School in Austin, Texas and graduated from Johnston High School in 1961 where he was involved in the Student Council, the Intramural Basketball, Baseball, and the A Cappella Choir. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he trained in the administrative field and was stationed in Korea and San Francisco, California where he met his wife Anita Finkle. They were married in 1965 and raised their children Renée and Lonnie in Santa Clara, California until 1976 when the family moved back to Gil's hometown of Austin, Texas where he remained until his death.

Gil was a generous, witty and charismatic fellow who led a vibrant and fulfilling life. He loved meeting people and had a profound effect on those who knew him. He was extremely passionate about music, being part of his grandchildren's lives, enjoyed playing the horses, traveling, and loved his Wednesday ritual of playing golf with his childhood buddies until physically unable in 2015.

A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Sunday, June 26 at 3pm at Austin Oaks Church, 4220 Monterey Oaks Boulevard in Austin with a reception to follow. Edwin Patterson will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gil's life. His cremated remains will be honored at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at a later date to be announced.
