Pedro Alvarez, 73, of Kyle, TX was called home to our heavenly father on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 with his family at his bedside. Pedro was born May 11, 1944 in Austin, TX to Prajedes and Concepcion Alvarez. Pedro, or Pete as he was known by, graduated high school in 1960 from Johnston High in Austin TX. He played football for the 1960 Johnston Rams and was a member of Johnston Ram football club. He attended technical college but later found his true passion serving the community. Pedro was a well-known cobbler in Austin where he worked and retired from the Abraham Shoe Repair Company. He met and later married the love of his life, Nellie Gutierrez, on Sunday January 19, 1974. Together they had two children. Pedro served his country with immense pride in the Unites States Army in the Persian Gulf. Pete was a longtime member of the Saint Anthony's Knights of Columbus in Kyle, Texas. Pedro is preceded in death by his parents; Prajedes N. Alvarez, Concepcion Caudillo Alvarez and his son-in-law Guadalupe Santos. He is survived by his wife; Nellie Alvarez, daughters; Monica Santos-Alvarez of Kyle, TX and Veronica Mann and her husband Clifton of San Marcos, TX, his two sisters; Juanita Alvarez Tello of Austin, TX and Consuelo Guerra of Del Valle, TX as well as six grandchildren, several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Funeral services are entrusted to Harrell Funeral Home of Kyle, 1715 Kirby, Kyle, TX. Visitation will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a recitation of Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Kyle, interment will immediately follow at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, TX.
