JOE L. GALLARDO

1/13/1946 - 6/13/1970

Joe L.Gallardo of 4536 Duval died in a local hospital Saturday.  He was a member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church.  He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Marines.  Gallardo was a 1964 graduate of Johnston High School.  He was wounded in Vietnam in October 1967 and lost both legs below the knees.  He received the Purple Heart Medal, with one star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.

A Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. in the Angel Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Cristo Rey Catholic Church , with Rev. Charles Davis officiating.

Burial with military honors under auspices of the U.S. Marine Reserve Training Center, will be in Assumption Cemetery under direction of Angel Funeral Home.

Gallardo is survived by seven sisters, Mrs. Catarina Martinez, Mrs. Lupe Govea, Miss Francis Gallardo, Mrs. Maria Ignacia Gonzales, Virginia Gallardo and Rosie Gallardo, and Mrs. Elisa Pulliam all of Austin; three brothers, Nick Gallardo, Lee Gallardo, both of Austin and Johnny Gallardo with U.S. Navy.
