Darrell Lee Tabor, 70, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully from a brief illness at the University of Utah Medical Center on Tuesday, September 8.

He was born in Kearney, Nebraska to Viola Catlin Tabor and Ward Everett Tabor. He was the first of two children; three years later his sister Barbara Jane joined their family. The Tabor family lived in Nebraska until 1949. They then relocated to the Austin, Texas area. Darrell grew up in Texas, where he attended and graduated from Albert Sidney Johnson High School in 1964. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Piedmont. His six years of Navy service took him around the world.

In November of 1966, while stationed in San Diego, Darrell met his sweetheart, Connie May Justus of Blackfoot. The two became pen pals and were married July 15, 1967 in Blackfoot, Idaho at the Jason Lee Memorial Methodist Church. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.

The Tabor family made their home in Blackfoot where Darrell worked in law enforcement for several years. In 1979 he began working for the DOE at the site in security. In 1994, he and his wife started their own business, Creative Design and Service. They have made and installed drapery and blinds in numerous churches and businesses throughout Southeastern Idaho.

Darrell and Connie are the parents of eight children, Christina (Matthew) Hoskin, Meridian, ID; Doreen (Jeff) Georgeson, Albuquerque, NM; David (Laura) Tabor, Rigby, ID; Alison (Todd) Tanner, Eagle Mountain, UT; Daryleen (Cad) Christensen, Rigby, ID; JuliAnne (Paul) Iba, Lehi, UT; Bryce (Jessica) Tabor, Thomas, ID; Jennifer (Derek) Heiner, Eagle Mountain, UT. He was the loving grandfather to 28 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The Tabor family lived in the Moreland area where are all of their children attended and graduated from Snake River High School.

Darrell enjoyed fishing, woodworking, family history, spending time with his family, and tinkering with his tools. He was a talented woodworker. He built working numerous Grandfather clocks, cabinetry, and custom furniture. He built wooden toys and donated them through the LDS Humanitarian Center and to other friends and neighbors.

He was known for his kindness, his service, and sense of humor. Everyone who knew him considered him to be a friend.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 48 years, his eight children, his sister Barbara of Lampasas, TX, one nephew, Paul Overfelt of Walburg, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson, Michael Owen Hoskin.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, Sept 12, 2015 at the Moreland LDS Church, 740 W. 175 N. in Moreland. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday, Sept. 11 and for one hour prior to the service, under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
