Mary Jane Vasquez
March 23, 1947 - January 28, 2025
Our beautiful and beloved mother, Mary Jane Trevino-Vasquez, age 77, was called to our Heavenly Father on January 28, 2025. Born on March 23, 1947, in Austin, TX, she grew up in the heart of East Austin, raised her children in South Austin, and spent her retirement years in Buda. She loved those few summers spent living in the mountains of Cloudcroft, NM. A beacon of love, strength, and kindness, "MJ" touched the lives of all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
A cherished sister, a devoted mother, and an adoring grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Blanche Trevino, and her siblings, Lucy, Terry, Tommie, and Jesse. She is survived by her siblings Margaret, Lillie, Delores, Dora, and Lawrence Trevino; her son, Joey Cervantes (Angela); her daughters, Tish Christopher (Eddie) and Julie Carmona (Louie). Her cherished grandchildren: Lilie Carmona, Elsie Carmona, Jacob Cervantes, Andre Calixto, Tripp Christopher (Caryn), and Cassedy Vasquez (Ryan); five great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many loving family members and friends throughout the Austin and Buda/Kyle communities.
A proud graduate of Johnston High School, Mary Jane continued her education at Austin Community College. Her professional journey was as diverse as it was impactful, with many years dedicated to service at the Texas State Capitol. She also contributed her talents to the real estate office of JB Goodwin, The Daily Texan Newspaper at UT, and Travis County Court. An entrepreneur at heart, she founded Mary Jane's Fashion Boutique, sharing her love for resale clothing and accessories with the community. Even in retirement, her dedication to education shone brightly as a substitute teacher at Hays CISD, where she was honored as Substitute of the Year.
Mary Jane's vibrant spirit was reflected in her many passions. She absolutely loved to dance and sing her heart out. She also enjoyed sketching and photography, capturing memories of family celebrations and weddings. She found joy in nature, whether hiking, gardening, or simply soaking in the beauty around her. A gracious hostess, she delighted in cooking for loved ones and opening her home for gatherings. Her faith grew stronger through women's Bible study groups and her service to Santa Cruz Catholic Church. One of her greatest joys was found in the laughter and love of her grandchildren, treasuring every moment with them. Her influence on their lives is a legacy that will continue to guide them as they navigate their paths.
Mary Jane will forever be remembered for her kind heart, radiant smile, and the love she so freely gave. She brightened the lives of those around her, and her memory will continue to inspire. We find comfort knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven, and her spirit will continue to shine in our hearts, guiding us until we meet again. https://www.harrellfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/Mary-Jane-Vasquez?obId=35230846
