Cruz Garcia
Austin - Cruz Garcia, born May 3, 1947, passed away on March 16, 2022, at the age of 74 in his hometown of Austin, Texas from an unexpected heart attack. Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, his loving heart can be felt through all the wonderful memories that remain.
Cruz met the love of his life, Frances, while dancing to music at Hill Top dance hall. It was love at first sight and they supported each other every step of the way. Their courtship started with late night dances and continued through 53 wonderful years of marriage.
Cruz is survived by his wife, Frances and two sons Cruz Jr. and Jason. Three grandchildren Alysha, Juliana and Christopher. Brothers and sisters Tomasa (Hilario) Solis, John (Gloria) Garcia, Anita (Joe) Gonzales, Espirion Jr. (Patricia) Garcia, Frank (Carol) Garcia. He leaves a wonderful legacy of multiple nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Espirion Garcia and mother Nicolasa "Petra" Garcia, as well as half-brothers Noval and Roy.
Cruz started his career as an entry level meat-cutter at Bergstrom Air Force base. He excelled and rose up quickly to General Manager with the Defense Commissary Agency, enabling him to travel overseas giving his family an extraordinary experience visiting multiple countries while living in England and Germany. He then returned home closing his career in Killeen, TX at Fort Hood Air Force base after 42 years of service.
Cruz enjoyed being outside tending to his yard, RVing, football, hunting, fishing and the ocean. Fond memories of beach vacations along with BBQ meals and campsites made his day.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home of Kyle with Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Saint Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church of Kyle.
