Joe Montez. September 25, 1947 - June 2, 1967.  Died at the age of 19.  Served in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam

A Marine from Austin was listed Wednesday among 33 men who were killed in action in connection with the Vietnam War.  Lance Cpl. Joe Montez, son of Mrs. Trinidad Montez, 1105 Vargas Road, was killed in action at Quang Tyn on June 2.  Funeral is pending at Mission Funeral Home.  Survivors include the mother;brothers, Tony, Paul and Manuel Montez;sisters, Mrs. Helen Benavides and Mary Montez;and the grandmother, Mrs. Marcelina Martinez, all of Austin.  Montez was a member of Dolores Catholic Church.  Burial Assumption Cemetery.
