
Gilbert Urea, Jr., 77, of Austin, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 6, 2025. He was the husband to Linda Urea of 54 memorable years, father of four sons, Popo to 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Gilbert was born on November 1, 1947 in Lamesa, TX to Maria Carrion Acosta. He attended Johnston High School in Austin, Texas. Gilbert proudly served in the United States Army including overseas in Vietnam, he served as infantry-33rd artillery from 1968 through 1969. Gilbert later became a truck driver in the Austin area, friends knew him best by his CB handle “Rambo.” He was a family man who loved to be involved in the community where he played softball for many years, known on the ball field as “Hil” but his true sports love was fishing and golfing. Gilbert had a sharp memory and quick witty comebacks, could fix anything, willing to help anyone, and loved to be outside. He had a heart of service and loved his family fiercely. Gilbert particularly enjoyed spending time with each one of his beloved grandchildren. Gilbert was preceded in death by mother, Maria Carrion Acosta, siblings: Arturo Acosta, Maria Acosta Lopez, and Teofila Baldaramos. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Linda Urea, children: Gilbert Urea III (Iris), Daniel Urea (Joanna), Michael Urea, David Urea (Jennifer). Grandchildren: Jacob (Starlena), Destinee, Devorah, Jaden, Devin, Giavanni, David Jr., Lexi, Krissi, Levi. Great grandchild: Brantley. Siblings: Guadalupe Acosta, Ralph Acosta (Alice), Elvira Acosta Cano (Pete). Visitation will be Friday, March 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 .p.m. , with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 South 1st Street, Austin, Texas 78745. Interment will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 10:45am. Gilbert will be laid to rest with full military service at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
