Darryl Leroy Stewart

Born in Austin, Texas on Oct. 3, 1951
Departed on Jun. 26, 2013 and resided in Austin, TX.

Darryl Leroy Stewart was born October 3, 1951 in Austin, Texas to Louis K. Stewart and Pearlie B. Stewart. Darryl accepted Christ at an early age with Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church and later united with Metropolitan A.M.E. Church where he started the men's Usher Board that was names after him, Darryl Stewart Men's Usher Board.

Darryl graduated from Albert Sidney Johnston High School in Austin, Texas. He attended Navarro Jr. College in Corsicana, Texas and later transferred to Oklahoma State University. He was later drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles where he played one year before injury.

Darryl worked with Austin Independent School District for many years as a Coach and then later moved to the ISS unit at LBJ High School until he retired in March 2010.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie B. Stewart; one brother, Howard McCall Stewart; grandmothers Willie Mae McCall and Maggie Stewart; grandfathers, Howard McCall and LeRoy Stewart.

He is survived by his father, Louis K. Stewart; two sisters, JoeAnn Stewart Canady and Sharon Stewart Hawkins; one brother, Louis K. Stewart, Jr. and wife Mildred Stewart; one nephew; five nieces; four great nieces and three great nephews; one step daughter,; two special grandkids; four aunts and two uncles; two special friends, Precious Brown and Quincy Sorrells; extended family, Goodman Family; and a host of relatives and friends.

Dr. Billy Harden (1971)

Darryll was my brother-in-law for a while, and I could not have had a better friend that he.  He helped to raise my great niece and nephew and he will always live in the hearts of the Harden family.  He was a Johnston High School sports legend.  Love you man!
