Sylvia Rodriguez Obituary

Sylvia J. Rodriguez
Sylvia J Rodriguez, age 68, passed away on March 12, 2021 at her home in Austin TX. Sylvia was born on February 2, 1953 in Austin, TX.
Sylvia's life started the same year the Corvette was produced. Just like the Corvette Sylvia captured the eyes of everyone with her natural beauty. Sylvia grew up in East Austin. She attended Govalle Elementary School, Allen Middle School, and graduated from Johnston High School in 1971. She played the clarinet as a band member and was a contestant in the 1970 Austin TX Junior Beauty Pageant.
During the 1970's Sylvia was a waitress at several Mexican restaurants. At one time she was a Teacher's Aid. Sylvia explored other options and applied for Texas Instruments, later advancing to an Inspector position.
By the mid 1980's Sylvia was a mother of 4 children. The greatest job in the eyes of her small children was working for Showbiz Pizza, now called Chuck-e-Cheese. Sylvia later worked at Walmart as a cashier and took on a second job as an overnight elderly caretaker.
In the early 1990's Sylvia was faced with the greatest hardships. Sylvia was divorced, worked several jobs, and had to raise four children by herself, one of whom was Schizophrenic. A court gave Sylvia a choice, give up a career or give up the children. She chose to keep the family intact. Sylvia became a Stay-at-Home mom.
In 1999 Sylvia returned to the workforce as a Security Officer for Wackenhut Security. She was first assigned to the Dell Computers account. She remained in this line of work until retirement in 2015. Sylvia continued to serve the motherly role for two of her adult children. She ran errands for her elderly mother and siblings. In 2018 Sylvia broke her hip, her health began to decline. Sylvia passed away of natural causes three years later.
During times of uncertainty Sylvia promoted a positive outlook on life. She had a big heart that consisted of endless nurturing, routine kindness, and extreme patience. Her home was available for those needing a break from life's rough times. Regardless of the time of day or traffic conditions on the road, Sylvia went out of her way to accommodate everyone's needs before her own. Sylvia will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.
Sylvia is survived by her four children: Silverio Rodriguez, Sylvester Rodriguez Jr, Sophia "Sabrina" Rodriguez, and Sunny R. Rodriguez, 2 grandchildren, and numerous family members of varying generations. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto and Tomasa Rodriguez; and sister, Alice Leal.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday March 18th from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm followed by the Rosary at: Harrell's Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin TX 78745.
