LESLIE'S OBITUARY

U.S. Veteran

Leslie James Jones, born April 27, 1953 in Austin, Texas, was called home, to be with the Lord, on Monday, April 17, 2023.

He attended Johnson High School within the Austin Independent School District in Texas. Shortly after, he began his career enlisting in the United States Army. In 1974, he and Carmen Louise Patridge were married.

He served as a Postal Worker for 12 years with the Texas National Guard. During this time, he also began his career with the State Hospital. In 1979, Leslie and Carmen gave birth to their only child, Cleopatra Jones. He then moved on to Travis County Parks and Recreation, where after 23 years of service, he finally retired.

For 37 years, Leslie's love for bowling and being a part of the bowling community allowed him to cross paths with an abundance of friendly souls. So many more were found in the bingo and softball communities, as well.

Leslie's pride and joy was his only daughter, until 2004, when his first grandson, Alvin Hopkins, Jr., was born. He was overjoyed when his second grandson, Treysean Hopkins, arrived in 2010. Since they were born, he lived for his grandsons. He loved and cared for them immensely.

Leslie is preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Jones; parents, Ruthie Bell Washington and Robert Jones; younger brother and sister, Larry and Shirley Jones.

He leaves to cherish and celebrate his memory, his only child, Cleopatra Jones; grandsons, Alvin Hopkins, Jr. and Treysean Hopkins; older brother, Willie 'CheChe' Jones; younger brothers Shedrick 'Peaches' Jones, Michael Jones, and Forris Washington Jr.; along with a host of nieces and nephews and a plethora of close-knit bowling, bingo and softball friends.
