Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services

Our hearts are heavy with the departure of a woman who was a light in all of our lives, a gift of grace and comfort as a Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.

Mary Ann Villegas Hernandez was born in Austin, TX on November 17, 1953 and was a proud, lifelong Austinite. She left this world to be received by heavenly angels on January 2, 2022. We are comforted in the assurance that she was met with joy in golden light by her departed and doting husband Joe T. Hernandez, parents Andres V. Villegas and Gumezinda Q. Cortez, and other beloved family members and friends who left this world before her.

Grieving the loss of a true family matriarch are her children Joe Hernandez Jr. and wife Keara Mahoney, Jason V. Hernandez, and numerous loving nieces and nephews who relied on her for her unending spiritual guidance and support.

The pride of her life was raising her two wonderful sons. In 2015 Mary Ann also celebrated her retirement from a distinguished career of 38 years with the IRS in Austin where she made countless friends in her wonderful coworkers and accomplished great success. Travel was a passion of hers and she enjoyed many great trips with close friends all over the world. She had a kind and charitable heart and always contributed to the less fortunate in her community and served as a place of refuge and safety for anyone who was struggling.

Although Mary Ann had a long and challenging battle against sickness, she drew solace from those around her, and always found strength through her faith. We graciously thank those who gathered and shared their energy, time and love with Mary Ann.

In her final weeks of life, she was cared for tirelessly by her youngest son, Jason Hernandez, and was nursed and comforted by the kind-hearted staff at St. David’s Hospital.

Mary Ann leaves her legacy behind through many family members and friends. Once you had a chance to meet her, you would never forget the impact of her softness, sincerity, patience, and generous spirit. Her dazzling smile could light up a room and brighten any day. She taught us how to draw close to the Lord and that He would draw close to you. She reminded us of the joy in loving those around you and the beautiful rewards of giving and caring for others. Her selfless ways and gracious heart will live on through all who loved her, especially her sons, her daughter-in-law, and her soon-to-be grandson.
