Nettie Lavania Rivers - Class Of 1973

Nettie Lavania Rivers, affectionately known as "Cookie", was born on June 11, 1955 to James and Violet Faye Rivers in Austin, Texas. She departed this life on March 31, 2014.

Nettie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and was a member of Rising Star Baptist Church.

She graduated from Albert Sidney Johnston High School in 1973, where she excelled in general academics. She then went on to Concordia Lutheran College where she received a degree in Business Administration. She graduated in the top percentage of her class. After graduation, Nettie went to work for the Internal Revenue Service, where she remained for over 8 years.

She had a love for wild flowers and could be seen digging in the yard and tending to them on most days. Nettie also had a passion for shopping and would ask anyone that stopped by for a ride to the store. Her favorite target was her older brother Thomas, who would patiently take her from store to store.

She was married to her one true love Waymon Littlefield, in which one child was conceived.

Nettie is preceded in death by her mother, Violet Faye Henderson-Rivers-Aldridge, father James Rivers, Sr., and stepfather L. C. Aldridge, grandmother Irene Overton, aunt Florence (Henderson) Rhem and uncle Bernice Rhem, and aunt Eunice Nell (Henderson) Houston.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, her only daughter Monique Faye Littlefield; two grandchildren, Kevonne Tyler and Taundra Stewart; three brothers, Thomas Henderson, James Rivers, Jr., and Franchot Rivers, Sr. and wife Beverly; two sisters, Victoria Rivers and Beverly (Rivers) Tyler; cousin Joselyn Rhem, all of Austin, Texas; two uncles Lamar McGuire of San Antonio and Jim Houston of Austin; aunt Gloria Henderson of New York; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
