Gentry Overton, III was born July 14, 1955 to the union of Gentry Overton, Jr. and Bettye D. Hill Overton. He was educated in the public schools of Austin and attended Huston-Tillotson College.

Gentry professed a hope in Christ and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was baptized in the Summer of 1966 by Rev. Robert Rowe.

He married Bobbie Lou Sparks

Gentry departed this life November 20, 2003. He was preceded in death by his father; two nephews; grandmother, Annie Mae Kavanaugh Overton; great grandmother Frances Galloway Hill-Shaw.

He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Gentry Lin Sparks and wife Debrosa (Nikki), Shawn Pettaway; grandchildren, Destiny and Gentry Lin Sparks; loving and devoted mother, Bettye D. Hill Overton; brother, Gary Lynn; sisters, Debra and Michelle; three nieces; three nephews; four great nephews; aunt Lavern Hill Rawlings (Harold) of Freeport, New York; uncles Thomas Hill, Jr. (Cecilia) of San Francisco, California; great uncle Richard Overton; great aunts, Mabel Kavanaugh Williams, Gertie Kavanaugh Horton, Edna Kavanaugh, Katherine Gray; special friend as a brother, Mr. Charles Solomon; numerous cousins, relatives and friends.
