Charles Hill - Class Of 1979

Charles Alfred Hill III, was born May 18, 1961, the second child of Charles and Cordia Hill in Austin, Texas. Charles attended Ulit Avenue Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ at an early age under the late Rev. O.S. Davis.

Charles was a very quiet and studious child. He loved sports. It was at Sims Elementary School that he caught the eye of gym teacher, Mr. Sampson who recognized that Charles had a talent for running extremely fast. He encouraged him to run in the Track and Field day held at the end of school each year. Charles participated and beat everyone he raced against.

Charles went on to play little league baseball at Downs Field under the leadership of Coach Charles Hubbard. He took swimming lesson every summer at Given Park. He played football and ran track at Allen Jr. High School.

Charles graduated from A.S. Johnston High School, where he played football and ran on the track team. On the track team, he won many races and broke records. Charles' ability to run like the wind garnered him many 1st place medals. He ran the 110 yard dash and the 220 yard dash. His favorite event was the 440 relay. Every year, Charles was a participant in the Texas Relays. Charles won so many races, he was nicknamed "Bayi", catch me if you can.

After graduation from high school, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. He received the Meritorious Mast award and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Whether in his work, or his leisure pursuits, Charles applied himself with imagination, enthusiasm, energy, intelligence and passion. In everything he did, he exuded a sense that whatever occupied him at the moment was important, that his best was required, and that he was enjoying the process hugely! On August 24, 2016, the Lord called Charles to his heavenly home. He has finished his race. He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Charles A.
