Sharon Yolanda Menchaca-Walker
FEBRUARY 14, 1950 – DECEMBER 7, 2006
IN THE CARE OF
Our beloved mother, daughter, sister, cousin and aunt was called home by the Father on December 7, 2006. She was born on Valentines Day (Feb. 14) 1950 to Martin and Grace Menchaca, here in Austin, Texas. After attending Metz Elementary and Allen Junior High, she graduated from A.S. Johnston High School where she excelled academically -- earning National Honor Society recognition -- and enjoyed a rich social life as a member of the varsity tennis team, Marigold Choir and the Blue Bell dancers. She continued her education at Concordia College and soon went to work for Trujillo Business Service, where she became proficient at different business applications, including tax preparation, accounting and Notary services. The majority of her professional life was spent in service at the Travis County Mental Health and Retardation Center, where she earned consistent grade promotions and from which she retired in 2006, due to health issues. A life-long sports enthusiast, she was well-known as an avid Dallas Cowboys fan; one who understood the games strategies and nuances to the point that she could sometimes actually call the play the team was about to run before they ran it. Her competitive spirit showed itself in her business-like way of running the pool table, chuckling as she scored double sixes at dominoes or gleefully tallying her points after shouting Gin! She lived her life at full throttle; loved laughter, good times, R&B and B.B. King. She was respectful to her elders while being sometimes brutally honest with those close to her. But the often tough exterior shielded a soft-heart and warmth that was never very far from the surface. She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Z. Menchaca; husband, J.T. Walker. She is survived by her daughters, Valencia Grace Walker, Shari Yvonne McKinney; son, Jermaine Alan Walker; her mother, Grace Menchaca; sisters, Sheila Menchaca, Nancy Riley and Geri Willems; brother, Titos Menchaca; along with many cousins; nieces and nephews that make up her close-knit, loving family. Farewell for now, Little Miss Sharon We will miss your big voice
your big laugh And mostly, your big heart Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Memorials and guestbook online at wcfish.com https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/austin-tx/sharon-menchaca-walker-8218778
