Richard Rios Gil, age 67, of Austin, passed away peacefully October 7, 2021

surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on August 18, 1954 in Austin, Texas

to Otis and Olivia Gil. A native resident of Austin, he served in the United States Navy

in Panama City, Panama and was honorably discharged after completing two years of

service. In pursuit of his passion for teaching, he studied at the University of Texas at

Austin and later transferred to Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State

University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a minor in Spanish.

Richard was an active member of Emmanuel Assembly of God for many years and his

faith was evident in every aspect of his life. Richard began his teaching career as a

First Grade teacher at Mollie Dawson Elementary School and later transferred to

Williams Elementary School and Bedichek Middle School. Over the course of his

32-year career, he touched the lives of many students in the classroom.

In 1975, Richard married the love of his life, Diane Estrada Gil. Their 46 year marriage

was blessed with two children, Ricardo Noé Gil (Dolores) and Sofia Olivia Phillips

(John), as well as six grandchildren, Isaac, Ethan, Matthew, Grace, Seth and Natalia.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Olivia Gil. Richard is survived by

his wife, two children, and six grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his eight

brothers and sisters, Arturo (Dolores), Alicia (Ruben), Otis,Jr. (Irene), Amelia (Arnulfo),

Daniel, David (Vera), Sylvia (Juan), Cynthia (Lawrence), sister-in-law Pat Gil, and

numerous nieces and nephews. You are invited to his memorial service at Woodlawn

Baptist Church Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 10:30 am (4600 Manchaca Rd, Austin,

Texas, 78745). Masks are strongly encouraged.
