Juan Anselmo Lopez - Class Of 1972 VIEW PROFILE

Juan Lopez was born in Austin, TX on November 24, 1953 to Anselmo and Isabel Lopez. He grew up in east Austin, attended and graduated from Johnston High School in the Class of ’71.

Juan and Alejandra exchanged marriage vows on June 2, 1979 in Austin, TX at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, were he also did his other sacraments.

Juan and Alejandra were blessed with two sons, Daniel and Adan.

Of the numerous jobs he had over the years, the one he loved the most was the calling he received to become a Deacon. Juan was ordained as permanent Deacon by Bishop John McCarthy on June 17, 2000 and served for 11 years in the Diocese of Austin. He was assigned to Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Austin, TX with Father Larry Mattingly from his ordination until the summer of 2005. Later he was transferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elgin, TX with Father George Joseph where he served until his death.

During his time as a deacon, Juan enjoyed spreading the word of God through various ministries, at mass, or when he visited the inmates at Del Valle Correctional Facility. He also loved making rosaries in his spare time.

Juan devoted his life to his wife, his children, his ministry, and serving the people of God. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is preceded in death by his parents Anselmo and Isabel Lopez.

He is survived by his wife Alejandra, his sons Daniel and Adan, his brothers, Facundo Andres Lopez and wife Alice of Austin, TX, Gilberto Sendigo of Texas, his sisters, Mary L. Vasquez of Austin, Julia de Leon and husband Tony of Austin and Ysidra Luna of Ohio.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7:30 pm on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Internment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.

Words cannot express the feeling in our hearts. Thank you for being with us during this difficult time. Your thoughts, prayers and words of sympathy will always be remembered. Thank you to all who visited Juan during his last days, to all who sent sympathy cards, flowers, meals, and phone calls.
