Janet was born on September 4th, 1953and passed away on November 13th, 2020at the age of 67.

Janet Sorrells was born on September 4, 1953, in Austin, Texas, to the union of Robert Lee Sorrells and Mae Hue Allen Sorrells. Janet was raised in a Christian family that loved the Lord, and devoted her life to Christ at an early age at the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, Pastor E. L. Roberts. Janet loved serving the Lord and was a lead singer in the Church choir and loved singing praises to GOD. Janet taught Sunday School classes to children and was an active participant in Church activities. She later moved to Missouri City, Texas where she joined the New Faith Baptist Church, T.R. Williams, Pastor, and continued her service to the Lord by participating in various church ministries and programs. Janet was soft-spoken, happy and always had a servant's spirit like her grandmother, Annie Lee Galloway. She was adventurous and created many fun memories with her sisters and friends, and always led her life consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Janet graduated from Albert Sydney Johnston High School, Austin, Texas in 1972. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and worked while attending school. Janet's strong work ethic and affable personality led to many wonderful career opportunities she pursued and accepted. Janet worked for several state and federal agencies, including but not limited to, the Travis County State School, Austin State Hospital, the Department of Economic Development, the United States Postal Service, the University of Houston Law School and the Texas Workers Compensation Commission, Ombudsman Office, where she helped countless employees obtain benefits for on the job injuries. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Sorrells. Janet leaves to cherish her memory, her loving mother, Mae Sneed of Austin, Texas, sisters Robbie Sorrells Thomas, Killeen, Texas, Linda G. Sorrells, Dallas, Texas, Carol Sorrells Vaughn (Ronald Vaughn) Sugar Land, Texas, Barbara Skinner, Austin, Texas and her brother, Roy Sorrells (Sandra Sorrells), Austin, Texas, nephews Datron Bolden (Crissy Bolden) Austin, Texas, Ronald "RJ" Vaughn, Austin, Texas, niece, Kiaya Skinner, Dallas, Texas, and a host of family and friends. Janet's spirit ascended to her heavenly home on November 13, 2020, after a valiant battle with breast cancer. She will always be remembered as a child of God and for her joyful, kind, gentle spirit and beautiful voice.
