Celebration of Life



After a nine-month battle with cancer, Maria Luisa (Espinosa)Virgne, of Pflugerville, TX went home to Jesus on April 28, 2023, at the age of 70 with her loving husband by her side. She was born on October 11, 1952, in Lockney, Texas to parents Francisco "Pancho" and Juanita (Perez) Espinosa. She was the 5th child born among 15 brothers and sisters, which instilled a deep devotion to family and faith from a very young age. She endured much in her childhood days, including a close call with death after contracting diptheria. She was raised in a migrant worker family and labored in the heat of the summer in the cotton fields. She grew up in Austin where she made life-long friends and graduated from Johnston High School with a great love of art. She studied hard so she could have a better life and was successful in attaining a scholarship to Southwest Texas State University before joining the workforce.

She was married to Rick Edward Virgne on November 28, 1980. They remained in the Austin area with their three children until 1987 when they moved to Pflugerville. She was an active member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church community, serving as a catechist and with the parish council for many years. While she spent most of her career as an accounting clerk, her passion was with her family and church. One of her greatest joys was gathering with her husband, their three kids and their spouses, and their nine granddaughters for "popcorn night" every Friday. Anyone that knew her became instant "family" with her infectious smile and loving spirit. She was a friend and guardian angel to so many who love her deeply.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents: Francisco "Pancho" and Juanita (Perez) Espinosa; sister, Susan (Espinosa) Schumaucher; brothers: Demetrio Joseph "DJ" Espinosa and Robert Espinosa; brothers-in-law: Arthur Garza and Ronald Cortez; and father-in-law, Dovey Virgne.

Maria is survived by her devoted and faithful husband of 43 years, Rick; son, Joseph "JC" Molis and his wife Laurie; daughter Barbara (Virgne) Flowers and her husband Daniel; son, Ricky Virgne and his wife Jody; granddaughters: Brooke Burke, Maria "Maddie" Virgne, Lily Molis, Mia Flowers, Andy and JJ Virgne, Olivia Flowers, Renny Virgne, and Jillian Flowers; siblings: Maria "Dolly" Padilla, Jesse Espinosa, Pauline Garza, Gloria Vasquez, Frank Espinosa Jr., Avelina "Bebe" Armendariz, Margaret Jaimes, Martha Cortez, Ruben Espinosa, Domingo Espinosa, and Fred Espinosa; along with her brothers and sisters-in-law; many nephews and nieces; and extended family.
