In Loving Memory

Our beloved Raymond Aleman Foster, after a heroic fight with cancer passed away on January 30, 2025, at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House.

Raymond was a mighty ram who graduated from Johnston High School in 1969. One of his fondest memories was when he traveled with the choir and sang “Guadalajara” in Piedras Negras, Mexico. Following high school, Raymond attended Nixon Clay College.

Raymond worked as a transportation supervisor for Austin ISD for 26 years. His career continued another 10 years with the City of Austin. Throughout his career he made great friends along the way, many of which he has kept in touch with over the years. While other people may devote their time to relaxation and leisure during their retirement, Raymond being the amazing son and brother he was devoted his to caring for our mother and sister.

Raymond’s passions were his family, music, nature, food, and travel. A skilled tennis player, Raymond loved to play with his brother John and their very close-knit group of friends who he considered family.

Our brother Raymond Foster, aka Jr to all of us, aside from our mother, played the greatest role in our family. After our father’s passing in 1973, our brother at the very young age of 22 took on the role of helping our mom raise us, and he did so without hesitation. He indulged us, protected us, and gave us his whole heart.

He would not hesitate to help any one of us when we were in need. In his mind, you were first, and he was last even to his dying day. For example, our sweet brother knew he had stage 4 lung cancer on November 10, but did not want to ruin our Thanksgiving or Christmas so he kept it to himself. To simply put on a good face and suffer in silence for the greater good, that is the kind of man we are talking about. His kindness, love and generosity were a major part of who he was. He was a son, brother, loving uncle, best friend and a dad to his fur babies Woody and Belle who he treated like royalty. To be loved by our brother made you feel like you mattered a great deal in this world. You belonged to him, and he would take care of you, and protect you no matter what. He was our Hero, our Superman. He was larger than life and his passing was huge. God even painted a beautiful sunset on the day of his passing in honor of his love for nature.

Though our time with him was too short and we are all very sad at his passing, we are grateful that he is now with God. Just as she did at his birth, our mother now welcomes him with open arms in death as he joins her alongside our brother and sister in Heaven. We miss you and love you JR! You will forever be in our hearts!

Raymond is survived by his brothers, Arthur (wife Nelda), John, Frankie, sisters, Diana, Sandra Jean, Pearl, Liz, Joy (husband Charles), and his loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary, sister Cynthia and brother Roland.
