Born on April 28, 1952, in Austin, Texas, Robbie Yvonne Sorrells was the cherished firstborn of Robert Lee Sorrells and Mae Hue Allen Sorrells. She was raised in a Christian family that loved the Lord, and gave her life to Christ at an early age at the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Graduating from Albert Sydney Johnston High School, Austin, Texas in 1970, Robbie embarked of a fulfilling career journey, becoming a receptionist, support staff for an insurance company, and an office administrative assistant. Notably, Robbie also had a career as a phlebotomist, becoming an invaluable member of the medical community at Seton Hospital, Austin, Texas. Recognized as the go-to-phlebotomist for challenging situations, Robbie's skillful vein location and needle insertion were esteemed by hospital staff and patients.
Beyond her medical expertise, Robbie showcased her versatility as an adept "southern engineer," proficient in repairing various household items. An electronic whiz, Robbie effortlessly installed and connected modern technology equipment that worked flawlessly.
Robbie was a good, kindhearted, caring person. She was an excellent babysitter in her early years and made sure her siblings followed the house rules when she was left in charge. She spent quality time with her Aunt Buggie prior to her aunt's passing.
Possessing exceptional culinary skills, Robbie delighted family and friends with exquisite dishes. Robbie was also the perfect human to her dog, "Shuga," whom she nurtured and trained to be a very loving, obedient and delightful pet. She had many skills and gifts she shared with others.
Robbie also had a very loving, attractive, and caring personality that led to two marriage proposals she accepted. Robbie's second husband, Cortez Thomas, preceded her in death.
Robbie's passing on November 7, 2023, marked the end of a valiant battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of love and talent, and is survived by her devoted mother, Mae Hue Sorrells Sneed, siblings Roy (Sandra Black), Linda, Carol (Ronald Vaughn), and Barbara; nephews Datron Bolden (Crissy Bolden) and Ronald "RJ" Vaughn, II, niece, Kiaya Skinner, her beloved dog, Shuga, and a host of family and friends.
Robbie will forever be remembered as a child of God, her spirit now ascended to her heavenly home.
