
Maria Inez Cervantes, 68, of Austin, Texas passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023. She was born in Austin, Texas to parents, Enrique and Lucinda Acosta on June 4, 1954. She graduated from Johnston High School in 1972. A few years later, she met and married Lupe Cervantes, who would go on to be her one true love and together, they created a family, full of love.
Maria and Lupe made a decision to move back to Austin, from Dallas and they created a life here. They had four kids, Dominic, Angelic, Abraham and Elena. She was a parishioner at St. Julia Catholic church, where she was married and all her kids were baptized and confirmed.
For over 20 years, she was a state employee and she spent the majority of her career working at Texas Workforce Commission-Civil Rights and Housing. At TWC, she met so many people, who would become her lifelong friends. She retired in 2021.
Maria loved spending time with her family. She was a social butterfly and would make conversation anyone she met. She enjoyed thrift store shopping, where she would collect music boxes and other knick knacks. She loved watching game shows, judge shows, lifetime movies, hallmark movies, snapped tv series, soap operas, reading, Betty Boop, Disney movies and playing cell phone games. Her favorite movie was Gone with the Wind.
She is survived by her husband, Lupe Cervantes; sons-Dominic and Abraham Cervantes; daughters-Angelic Hall (spouse Sammy Hall), Elena Hightower (spouse Wesley Hightower). She had 3 grandchildren: Nicollette Hall-aka “munchkin”(spouse Marina Gonzales), Jordan Hall, Abigail Hightower; and great granddaughter Nylah Hall. She is also survived by 2 sisters; Irma Reyna (spouse Jose Reyna) and Enriqueta Guerrro (spouse Juan Guerrero); Brothers, Noe, Andrew, Silverio and Rene Acosta. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends of her kids and grandkids, who thought of her as a surrogate mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enrique and Lucinda Acosta and brothers, Martin and Moses Acosta.
Maria was loved by many people. She and Lupe created a legacy of love and acceptance. She was an amazing wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed. We are ending this with her voicemail sign off “ok, love you bye.”
A visitation for Maria will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Julia's Catholic Church, 3010 Lyons Rd, Austin, Texas 78702, with the committal to follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas.
