Our beloved Dolores G. Matamoros, age 69, resident of East Austin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born a native Austinite on September 21, 1954, Dolores lived a life that was characterized by her adoring spirit with a tremendous love for her family.
Dolores attended Johnston High School, "Home of the Rams,". After her graduation in 1973, she began work in the food industry at Tracor Company, where she developed a passion for baking.
Dolores and her beloved husband, Steven Matamoros, were entrepreneurs at heart, operating a cleaning business together until his untimely passing. They shared a deep bond that was evident to everyone around them.
Dolores was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Victoria Obregon-Osorio (Rosalinda) and Elizabeth Osorio; her son, Adam Salazar; and her adoring grandchildren, Fabian V. Bryant (Ariana Longoria), Ramon K. Bryant, Sabrina M. Padilla, John M. Padilla II, and Monica Padilla (Miguel Casas). Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Catalina M. Summer, Arya N. Bryant, and Mariana H. Casas. She is also survived by her sisters, Alicia Gallardo and Manuela G. Phipps, godsons, John Paul Acosta, Jesse Frank Barrientes; and goddaughter Alicia Phipps; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Nicolas Trujillo Gallardo, Sr., and mother, Guadalupe Cruz Gallardo, sister, Lucia Gallardo, and brother, Nicolas T. Gallardo, Jr.
Throughout her life, Dolores found pleasure in simple joys. She relished going to the movies, which she often enjoyed with her family. She often talked about her first job at the Paramount Theater. She loved to reminisce that she and her sister Lucia made sure everyone had fresh popcorn. One of her favorite pastimes was going out to eat with family. She loved especially going to Luby's, Southside Market, Johnny Boys, Casa Maria's, and Casa Garcia's just to name a few. As an avid gamer, she enjoyed going to Winstar when she could. Her love for nature and animals was evident when posting silly animal videos and pictures on Facebook. Dolores and her husband, Steven shared a love for travel, with trips to the coast being among their most treasured memories.
Dolores will be remembered for her spirited nature and her deep love for all her family. She had a huge heart and wasn't afraid to tell it like it is. For that, we will always be grateful that she was part of our lives.
