SGT USMC RET., Jesse Medrano CalvoCalvo, Jesse Medrano, SSGT USMC RET., died March 29, 2011. Born in Austin in 1947, a graduate from Johnston HS, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 20 years (three tours in Vietnam), he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his mother, Saturnina Rodriguez and sister, Lydia Calvo. Survived by father Frank Rodriguez, a son, Jun Uchima, and daughters Jessica Alvarez, Cynthia and Alfred Flores, Veronica Rivera, Monica Rivera, brothers Louis Calvo, Andrew Maldonado, sisters Janie Estrada, Dora Diaz, Sylvia Gonzales, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Rosary to be held at Mission Funeral Home, 6204 S. 1st St., in Austin at 7pm, April 1, 2011 with a mass celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1206 E. 9th St., in Austin at 10am, April 2, 2011 followed by a full military honors burial service at Phelan Cemetery in Bastrop, TX.
