Albert Charles Priestley passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 while surrounded by his loving wife Helen Priestley. 

Albert was born on February 4, 1949, to the late Matthew and Sallie Priestly in Bastrop, Texas.  He was the second of six children.  He graduated from Johnston High School in 1967.  Albert furthered his education at St. Edwards University.  Albert attended St. Edwards University on a basketball scholarship and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History.

Albert was a member of Union Chapel African Methodist Episcopal church and accepted Christ at an early age.  He later joined Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in under the pastoral leadership of Reverend B. L. McCormick. 

Albert married Helen Stanley on December 17, 1976.  They have one son Jewdon Priestley. 

Professionally, Albert worked for the City of Austin for 25 years and retired as the Director of Rosewood Recreation Center/Doris Miller Auditorium. His love of sports was evident in his involvement with youth basketball.  His teams won several citywide tournaments.  Albert’s favorite pastime was watching basketball which was his love of life and all of the sports.    

Albert is preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Sallie Priestley. 

Albert is survived by his wife Helen Priestley, son Jewdon Priestley; brothers Matthew Priestley, Jr. (Sylvia), Charles Priestley (Betty), Lewis Priestley (Sherri); sisters Barbara Priestley and Julia Priestley Williams; sister-in-law Petrinella Wright; grandsons Alden Wormley, Alleric Wormley and Charleston Rabb; great grandson Liam Davis and a host of relatives and friends.
