SANDEFUR, Lanny Lee
Lanny Lee Sandefur, 67, was called home to his Lord on the morning of December 21, 2016. He passed peacefully in his sleep surround by his family after a fight with cancer. Lanny was born on February 26, 1949, to Jack and Mabel (Lewis) Sandefur in Austin, Texas. On May 17, 1970, while serving in the United States Navy during Vietnam from 1968 - 1972, he married the love of his life, Candace Kathleen Roberts. Lanny was a brilliant machinist who spent much of his career at The University of Texas at Austin, where he retired as the Cryogenics Lab Manager in the Physics Department in 2013. He was a phenomenal cook who loved to spend time at his church, with his three granddaughters and traveling around the United States. He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed fishing and hunting as well. He never met a hot pepper he couldn't handle or a cold beer he didn't appreciate.
Lanny is survived by his wife, Candy; his son, Charley Sandefur and daughter-in-law, Brittany (Moore) and their daughter Julia; his son, Danial Sandefur; and his daughter Krissy (Sandefur) Bryant and son-in-law, Steve Bryant and their two daughters, Keeley and Odyn; and his two brothers George Sandefur and Jack Sandefur.
A Memorial Service for Lanny will be conducted at the Elgin Funeral Home on Thursday, December 29th at 2:00 PM with the Reverend, Caleb Williams officiating. A Repast, to celebrate Lanny's life, will follow at the New Hope Lutheran Church of McDade, Texas. The family requests plants in lieu of flowers or that a donation is made to New Hope Lutheran in Lanny's name. Special thanks to the MOB of New Hope Lutheran for all your support and help after his surgery. Lanny will live forever in our hearts and memories.
