Lucia "Luci" Orta

Lucia "Luci" passed away on June 1st, 2024
Luci, Lucia, Little Bear Lucia Orta was born on February 16, 1960 to Lucas and Angelita (Lopez) Orta. She was an original Austinite from Montopolis-USA (as she would say). Luci was a proud class of 78’ Johnston Ram. It’s been said to “live your dash” -Meaning to live life with passion & purpose, and we all know Luci definitely lived her dash! She loved traveling, the arts, going to the casinos, shooting pool, and playing BINGO. But nothing brought her more joy than family gatherings and dancing (even if she had to make her own dance floor). She lived a life of hospitality and volunteering. She always gave back and took care of others, whether you were family, a friend, or literally a stranger she crossed paths with. Much of her early career life was spent working with two of her closest friends, Cynthia & Libby Perez, at Las Manitas Restaurant. In knowing and working alongside them, she also took part at La Peña & their annual “Toma Mi Corazon” event. Before retirement, Luci worked many years as the housekeeping manager as San Jose Hotel. She retired from San Jose Hotel to lovingly care for her mother. In 2021 she moved to San Antonio to begin a new chapter of life. In her short few years there, she made many new friends, and in true Luci fashion, selflessly volunteered her time with Esperanza Peace & Justice Center. On June 1, 2024 our worlds forever changed as we found that Luci transitioned into her next journey and forever home. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Lucas and Angelita (Lopez) Orta. Her maternal grandparents, Mauricio & Guadalupe Lopez and paternal grandparents, Martin Orta, Paula Farias, and Natividad Farias. She leaves behind brokenhearted, her siblings; Marie Gutierrez, Gloria Suarez, Angelica Orta Castro, Adam Orta, and Reynaldo Orta. “Her kids” (Nieces and Nephews) – Rudolfo & Mari Gomez, Isis & Hector Joel Suarez, Lucas Tapia, and Joseph, Christopher, Consuelo, Guillermo, Eloy, and Victor Rey Orta. Including many great-nieces & great-nephews. Visitation Services will be held on Friday, June 14th, 2024 from 11:00a.m. to 3:00pm, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 1:00p.m. at Mission Funeral Home - Serenity Chapel, 6204 S. 1st St., Austin Texas 78745. Services for Luci will conclude at 3:00p.m., Friday June 14th, 2024 at Mission Funeral Home -Serenity Chapel.
