Mary Claude Atnip was born in Bells Texas July 17, 1934 to Claude and Helen Phelps. She died peacefully on the morning of May 20, 2025, in Pasadena, Texas.

Mary initially graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas with a BS in Kinesiology and taught Highschool girls’ physical education and was the high school girl’s tennis coach as well as the girls’ and boys’ basketball coach. After teaching for many years, she went back to college and got her master’s in business administration from Texas Wesleyan University, then worked as a case worker for the social security administration where she heard numerous types of cases until she retired from SSA.

Mary enjoyed traveling around in her travel trailer, she also loved boating, clogging and let’s not forget her dog Holly and many before her. Mary was a member of the Episcopalian faith at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Houston Texas.
