"Dee"
"Dee", a longtime resident of Austin, Texas, passed away on February 17, 2015 at the age of 73 from complications of a fall. She was born on November 3, 1941 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Marion and Frederick Pommerenk.

Dee graduated from Mt. Clemens High School and Central Michigan University. While at CMU she played and lettered in field hockey. After graduation she taught at Romeo High School (Michigan) for 2 years. She graduated with her M.A., from Ohio State University in 1967.

From 1966 to 1974, "Dee" taught physical education at the University of Texas at Austin. Dee taught and coached at the former A.S. Johnston High School from 1975 to 2000.

At Johnston High School Dee taught health and physical education and coached both girls and boys athletics. During the 1970's her girls basketball team had a 43 game win streak. Coach Pommerenk and the JHS Rams advanced to regionals in 1975, 1976 and 1977. Later Dee coached girls soccer and boys tennis.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dee spent many happy hours playing tennis and golf. In 1974 Dee won the annual Austin Women's City Championship.

To promote her favorite women's team sport-basketball, Dee established the Deanna M. Pommerenk Endowment Fund at Central Michigan University.

Dee is survived by her three sisters, Marilyn Tweddale of Arlington, Texas, Lois Pommerenk of Venice, Florida, and Janet McWilliams of Redford, Michigan; nieces Karen Stieff (Mike). Ellen Bell (Mike), Becky De Geer (Dean), Jenna McWilliams, Laura McWilliams-Wallace (Donald); nephew Mark Tweddale (Carla), aunt Bunny Harms, first cousins Anita Simurdiak (Dan), Ralph Harms, Bruce Harms (Laurie) and numerous other cousins; best friends Karen Lemunyon and Rosalinda Monrreal.

Dee's family wishes to extend thanks to Rosalinda Monrreal for her compassionate care and devotion and to Karen Lemunyon, Sheryl Yeary, Anita Blank, Lupe Ruiz, Amie Becker and her dog Ray for their special friendships.

Thank you to the staff of Brodie Ranch RHC and to New Century Hospice for their compassionate care and friendships during the time preceding Dee's death.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Deanna M. Pommerenk Endowment Fund at Central Michigan University, or to the Animal Trustees of Austin, Inc.
