
Barbara Jane Speight Sheffield Barbara Jane Speight Sheffield of Round Rock, Texas, was received into the arms of her Heavenly Father early on Monday morning, February 4, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Barbara was born to Horace and Maud Speight on September 12, 1939, in Jackson, Mississippi. They preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Bob Sheffield of Round Rock, daughters, Lynn Barker of Commerce, Texas, Carol Barba of Round Rock, Texas, a son, Mark Sheffield of Austin, Texas, eight grandchildren, a brother, Kelly Speight of Bentonia, Mississippi, and his wife, Nora, two cousins and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of friends. She was a graduate of Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi, Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, with a BS and a Master's Degree in English as a Second Language from Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, Tennessee. She also had thirty additional hours from various schools in Mississippi, Texas and Tennessee. She taught in schools in Mississippi, Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee. She finished her teaching career in 2004 and retired from the Nashville, Tennessee, School District. During the fifty two years of marriage to Bob, she served as a faithful pastor's wife as he pastored churches either in full time or interim capacities in Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. During this time she also wrote for various Southern Baptist Publications and led conferences for pastor's and deacon's wives. She consistently used her gifts and abilities in painting, music, teaching and hospitality in all the areas of her life to enrich the lives of others and honor her Lord. In all that she did, she took her identity from being an exemplary Christian wife, mother, grandmother, friend and confidant. All who knew her remembered her wit, unselfish caring sprit toward those around her. She had a genuineness about her Christian life that was evident to all who knew her. A memorial service remembering her life will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Round Rock, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Welcome Center of First Baptist Church. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Chaplain's fund at Seton Williamson Medical Center Foundation.
