Hi ya'll!

Wanted  to say this is a first for me.  I've never attended any reunion before and I'm a little nervous about this one. I've got a question for all of you.  Did anyone's life take an unexpected turn?  Or did everyone's dreams & plans turn out as you thought they would?  The answer may seem simple or obvious, but thought I'd just go ahead and put it out there anyway.  Wondering what kind of response I'll receive, if any.  Be seeing ya'll soon. Have fun!

???? what happened to King Ramsey??? where is the mount? I hear someone stole him. Does anyone know his whereabouts? It would be nice to have it back for all to see. I remember being part of the club that took care of him and got him spruced up for our football games. I was sad to hear that the school board decided all live mascots were no longer legal. He was put down and his head mounted to preserve our legacy. Who has him? Bring him back you thief!!! What ever happened to the dog Ramsey? where is he buried? On campus would be the perfect place. Story is he wondered up to the construction workers building our high school. He would show up around lunch time and the workers would feed him. The school was finished and the lunch room staff continued to feed and water him. Soon he was part of our school, wondering the hallways and everyone petting him. He was our in-school mascot. Hopefully he rests somewhere on the campus grounds.

I am so sorry I could not be at the memorial presentation. I had to be in Tennessee as that is where family takes me sometimes. I had several of those students in my classes whose names are on that magnificent monument to their heroic memory. I remember many of them so clearly and when I visited The Wall on the Mall in Washington, D.C. and spent time finding the names on that somber stone I saw them through the tears every one of them deserve. I also remember those who physically survived , but came back so damaged that they were mentally almost unrecognizable. Joe Villalobos, I remember very well. I think he may presently live in Pflugerville where many exes now call home. Also , I remember Charles McDonald, not only an ex-student of mine but a man I worked with at JHS for many years, wounded twice while serving two or three tours in Vietnam. And I will never forget the day two handsome Marines, one Black, one White,  in their dress uniforms, came in to the cafeteria to bring the news to Booker T. Lofton's mother of his death in the war. I knew Booker T. well and loved his dear mom who helped prepare the meals for us and our students. I remember her embrace and how her body trembled as I hugged her after she got the news no mother should have to hear.                                                       I would like all of you to know that the faculty at JHS created a memorial plaque with the names of those lost in the war. Unfortunately it was previous to our knowledge about the deadly agent orange deaths that , in some cases, took years to be determined, but were as deadly as any ammo round or artillery explosion. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank all of you who played a part in the creation of this permanent marker of memory for all these brave soldiers who gave the ultimate measure of bravery. I hope our plaque is somewhere at the school and is displayed prominently. If not, I will make every effort to find it and make sure it is placed in its proper place of honor inside the building.                      Rodney Brown                                                                                                                                                                                                 Teacher at ASJ-- 1965- 1998

Hey Joe,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well.

Hope you are safe and sound overseas my friend.

I guess its been awhile since you picked up some drumsticks eh?

I am still playing the trumpet for sure. Never did stop playing.

Worked in the engineering field until about 2009, got laid off and still can't find work.

Just playing music for a living pretty much.

Any news on coming back to Austin to visit or live again?

If you do look me up at a gig sometime so we can catch up.

Cuidate,

Phillip Borrero Class of 72

Gloria,

Our thanks from all the Marines whom, I show your message on our school web link.

You are one of the few yet more appreciative patriot individual whom knows the meaning of (Freedom-Peace) back in Austin and in the U.S.A. Then again ask a Liberal of the meaning in (Peace-Freedom) and they will always reply with a totally different answer regarding their (Peace-Freedom). But, I am sure to receive a reply regarding our comments.

Our Marines here send you, your family, Johnston High staff and past to present students warmth hello and may everyone take care and stay safe.

Semper fidelis,

Joe
