GILBERT SOZA 9-6-1952 – 7-23-2003 Our Heavenly Father called away our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Gilbert Soza. He was born in Austin but had resided in Kyle. Gilbert attended A.S. Johnston High School in 1969. He entered the U.S. Army in 1969, and served in Viet Nam. Gilbert retired from the City of Austin after 19 years of service. He was a member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago, Sr. and Natividad Soza and a sister, Carol Soza Cantu. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Josie Perez Soza of Kyle; two sons, Gilbert Santiago Soza and Toribio (Toby) Soza, both of Austin; one daughter, Alicia Fuentes of Kyle; stepchildren, Rene, Ophelia and Jesse Fuentes and wife Michelle , all of Austin; six brothers, Santiago Soza Jr. and wife Nancy, of San Antonio, Jesse Soza and wife Mary, of Odessa, Ricardo Soza and wife Mary Jane, of Austin, Michael Soza and wife Rose, of Austin, Manuel Soza, of Austin, and Nicholas Soza and wife Naomi, of Austin; four sisters, Irene Soza, Paula Ruedas and husband Gregorio, all of Austin, Janie Galvez and husband Frank, of Houston, and Lucy Mata and husband Luis, of Austin; six grandchildren, Destiny M. Soza, Destiny M. Soza-Garza, and JoeSaiah, Christopher, Paradise and Dynasty Fuentes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Special thanks to the two young men, Steven and Michael, who assisted us to the hospital and stayed to comfort us to the end. You two were angels sent by our Lord. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, Father Larry Mattingly as celebrant, under the spiritual care of Franciscan Friars. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, with brothers and nephews serving as pallbearers. Arrangements by Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress, Austin 442-1446.
