IN THE CARE OF

Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery

Pete Trujillo Bocanegra Jr., 80, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by loved ones on February 24, 2023.

Born in Austin, Texas on November 25, 1942, to Pete Bocanegra Sr. and Helen Trujillo Bocanegra, he was the oldest of 12 children. Pete attended A S Johnston High School where he showed off his pride as a Ram and his athletic ability, playing both football and baseball despite his small stature. His love for sports continued throughout his life. He played softball until he was age 60. Pete was a dedicated fan, supporting two of his favorite teams unconditionally: the New York Yankees and, of course, the Texas Longhorns.

A hardworking man of strong character with an exceptional sense of humor, Pete worked in the grocery business for Safeway, Apple Tree, and Randall’s before his retirement in 2013. His outgoing personality created lifelong relationships long into his retirement. To this day, Pete’s stellar reputation is still known in the industry.

In 1992, Pete married the love of his life, Lisa, in an intimate celebration on the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day. Pete commemorated each year of their marriage with the romantic gesture of giving Lisa a heart charm. Together, they lived their lives to the fullest creating new experiences, traveling to all corners of the United States, going to the theatre, listening to music, and spontaneously dancing cheek to cheek at parties, gatherings, and holidays. When at home, Pete enjoyed long walks, watching movies and sports, while spoiling his furry companion Lola, a black and white dapple dachshund.

Pete was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He treasured his family and embraced every moment with them. He especially loved his role as great grandfather. He had a raspy voice, a vivacious personality, and was a sharp dressed man that had a knack for telling stories, while also making them teachable moments, with his contagious laugh as the finale. He had the gift of making friends wherever he went, he never met a stranger.

Pete’s faith was strong, and he was a servant of Jehovah. He was devoted to reading his bible on a daily basis, which along with the strength of Jehovah, guided him through the challenges he faced in life. Pete shined brightest when he had an opportunity to witness. He was open-minded and loved unconditionally when it came to others’ beliefs, finding common ground and good in everyone. Pete’s lifelong devotion to his faith and study of Jehovah helped him gain a deeper understanding of life.

Pete was predeceased by Pete Bocanegra Sr. (father), Helen Trujillo Bocanegra (mother), Anthony Bocanegra (brother), Ray Bocanegra (brother), Kathy Bocanegra (sister), Jane McFarland (mother of his children). He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lisa Bocanegra, his children Veronica Hildebrand, Pete Bocanegra III, Patrick Bocanegra, his siblings Robert Bocanegra, Teresa Serna, Rudy (Sandy) Bocanegra, Consuelo (Arthur) Aguilar, Rick Bocanegra, Mary Helen Bocanegra, Linda (Michael) Sparks, Judy (Joe) Lara, and his seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Hospice of Austin - Christopher House for the outstanding care and comfort they provided during this difficult time.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Austin - Christopher House and/or the Austin Humane Society, organizations Pete felt strongly about.
